Overview

One Acre Fund is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal and Investigations Intern to support legal research, investigations, evidence review, documentation, and professional legal drafting within its operations in Rwanda.

This opportunity is part of the Young Professionals Program, which provides high-performing graduates with practical experience, mentorship, training, and meaningful assignments in a mission-driven organization. The successful intern will work alongside experienced professionals while developing skills in legal analysis, investigations, and organizational compliance

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Case Assessment and Evidence Management

  • Support review of new and ongoing cases.
  • Identify allegations, background information, and key investigative issues.
  • Review and organize case documents, records, and correspondence.
  • Identify inconsistencies, missing information, and areas requiring clarification.

Investigative Support and Documentation

  • Assist in preparing investigative materials such as interview questions, case summaries, and briefing notes.
  • Document interviews and key findings accurately.
  • Support daily investigative and administrative activities.

Legal Research and Analysis

  • Conduct legal research on assigned cases.
  • Prepare clear summaries of relevant legal principles.
  • Support linking facts to legal issues under supervision.
  • Analyze legal matters related to investigations and organizational operations.

Drafting and Reporting

  • Prepare initial drafts of:
    • Investigation plans
    • Progress updates
    • Final reports
    • Legal memoranda.
  • Participate in review discussions and improve drafts based on feedback.
  • Maintain professional standards in legal documentation.

Career Development

  • Participate in mentorship, training, and performance feedback sessions.
  • Gain practical experience in legal investigations and professional drafting.
  • Develop technical and professional skills for future career growth.

Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • Foundational understanding of:
    • Criminal law
    • Law of evidence
    • Contract law.
  • LL.B degree or legal professional background is preferred.
  • Practical exposure of 3–6 months through:
    • Law firms
    • Judiciary
    • Prosecution offices
    • Other legal environments is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated legal writing ability through:
    • Coursework
    • Research papers
    • Moot court activities
    • Internships
    • Similar assignments.
  • Strong interest in legal investigations and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work under structured timelines and pressure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English and Kinyarwanda.
  • Working knowledge of French is an added advantage.

  • This opportunity is open only to citizens or permanent residents of Rwanda.
