Overview

One Acre Fund is seeking a motivated Scale Innovations Intern to support the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of agricultural innovation projects in Rwanda. The intern will work as part of the Scale Innovations Team, supporting product trials, field operations, research activities, and farmer-focused solutions aimed at improving agricultural productivity.

This opportunity is part of One Acre Fund’s Young Professionals Program, which provides high-performing graduates with practical work experience, mentorship, training, and opportunities to contribute to impactful projects supporting smallholder farmers.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Support Trial Implementation and Field Operations

  • Assist in implementing scale innovation trials and pilot activities.
  • Support trial leads in coordinating activities with field teams, farmers, and partners.
  • Help ensure timely delivery of products and services to participating farmers.

Support Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning

  • Track trial performance indicators and monitor product adoption, quality, and engagement.
  • Conduct surveys, interviews, and field follow-ups with farmers and partners.
  • Support data collection and reporting for trial evaluation and decision-making.

Contribute to Training Materials and Research Activities

  • Assist in preparing training materials, farmer lists, surveys, and trial tools.
  • Support farmer trainings, focus group discussions, needs assessments, and product testing.
  • Help organize and distribute materials required for successful implementation.

Maintain Trial Data and Reporting

  • Update trial tracking systems and record field activities accurately.
  • Compile field observations, lessons learned, and operational updates.
  • Support data quality checks and documentation of trial results.

Learn, Collaborate, and Support Innovation

  • Work with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and evaluate innovative agricultural solutions.
  • Provide ideas and observations from field activities to improve future projects.
  • Gain practical experience in agricultural research, product innovation, and field operations.

Career Growth and Development

  • Participate in onboarding, training, mentorship, and performance review sessions.

Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor's Degree in:
    • Agriculture
    • Agribusiness
    • Animal Science
    • Rural Development
    • Agricultural Economics
    • Or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of:
    • Crop production
    • Livestock production
    • Agricultural extension practices.
  • Strong interest in agricultural innovation, research, and farmer-focused development programmes.
  • Strong attention to detail when recording data, tracking activities, and preparing reports.
  • Basic proficiency in:
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Google Sheets
    • Digital data collection tools.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work in rural field environments.
  • Proficiency in Kinyarwanda and English.

  • This opportunity is open only to citizens or permanent residents of Rwanda.
