Overview

The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) is recruiting an Assistant Simulation Technician to support the technical operations of its Simulation & Skills Center.

This role is critical in ensuring the smooth functioning of simulation-based medical education, including equipment setup, audiovisual systems, and technical support for faculty and students.

UGHE, an initiative of Partners In Health (PIH), is a globally recognized institution focused on transforming healthcare delivery through education, innovation, and equity. 

Responsibilities

1. Simulation Support (On-site & Off-site)

  • Set up and deploy simulation equipment for training sessions and field activities
  • Provide technical support to instructors during simulations
  • Train faculty and staff on safe use and troubleshooting of equipment
  • Ensure all simulation tools are maintained in ready-to-use condition

2. SimCapture System Management

  • Support daily operations of SimCapture (AV simulation system)
  • Prepare systems before sessions (network, hardware, AV inputs/outputs)
  • Assist with recording sessions, playback, and debriefing workflows
  • Ensure secure handling and storage of simulation data

3. Simulation Lab Operations

  • Prepare simulation rooms with all required equipment and materials
  • Operate simulation software and run programmed scenarios
  • Manage scheduling, equipment tracking, and lab logistics

4. Maintenance, Inventory & Documentation

  • Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Maintain inventory of simulation tools and consumables
  • Support procurement and vendor coordination
  • Update technical documentation (SOPs, manuals, guides)

5. Reporting & Additional Duties

  • Participate in UGHE-related assignments as required
  • Support operational improvements and system efficiency 

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Biomedical Engineering
    • Computer Engineering
    • IT or related field

Experience

  • 1–2 years in:
    • Simulation labs
    • Teaching environments
    • Health-tech or technical support roles (preferred)

Technical Skills

  • Troubleshooting hardware, software, and AV systems
  • Knowledge of Windows/Mac OS and basic networking
  • Familiarity with simulation technologies (advantage)

Core Competencies

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users
  • High attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Other Requirements

  • Fluency in English (Kinyarwanda is an advantage)
  • Ability to handle equipment (up to 30kg with assistance)
  • Willingness to work full-time in Butaro and travel when needed
