Overview

Impanuro Girls Initiative (IGI), a women-led Rwandan non-governmental organization, is recruiting a Hairdressing Teacher to deliver practical vocational training at the IGI Ruhango Tekena Hub. IGI focuses on empowering women and girls through education, capacity building, and socio-economic development.

The successful candidate will deliver a six-month RTB-accredited Hairdressing curriculum. The primary objective is to equip young women with advanced salon-styling and hairdressing skills to help them establish self-reliant businesses or freelance careers.

The role involves competency-based assessments, maintaining trainee portfolios, and supervising a two-month Industrial Attachment Program (IAP). Working closely with the Field Lead and Center Coordinator, the teacher will play a vital role in IGI’s technical TVET teacher recruitment drive. This position is ideal for experienced stylists passionate about transferring practical skills to the next generation of Rwandan beauty professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Business Skills: Train students in customer care, client consultation, retention techniques, and basic salon management.

  • Practical Assessment: Organize simulated salon environments, assess student speed and creativity, and prepare daily lesson plans.

  • Program Administration: Monitor attendance, conduct RTB-aligned formative and summative competency assessments, and maintain trainee portfolios.

  • Mentorship & IAP: Support trainee confidence and leadership, and supervise students during the two-month Industrial Attachment Program.

  • Safeguarding: Maintain a safe, gender-responsive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Education: Diploma or Advanced Certificate in Hairdressing, Cosmetology, Beauty Therapy, or a related technical trade. TVET teacher certification or formal pedagogical training is required.

  • Experience: 2–3 years of professional experience running an active beauty salon or working as a lead hairstylist/instructor.

  • Technical Skills: Strong practical mastery of local and modern braiding, dreadlocks, weaving, relaxed hair care, styling aesthetics, and salon workspace organization.

  • Soft Skills: Ability to mentor young women, manage a classroom, and foster a supportive learning environment.

  • Languages: Complete fluency in Kinyarwanda is required. Professional working proficiency in English and/or French is a strong advantage.

  • Eligibility: A valid Police Clearance/Criminal Record Certificate is required before appointment. RTB-registered Trainer/Assessor status or a Trainer of Trainers (ToT) certificate is an added advantage.
