Overview

EcoPlanet Bamboo Rwanda Ltd is seeking an experienced and results-driven Operations Manager to lead the implementation of its Annual Planting and Operations Plan across Rwanda.

The successful candidate will provide operational leadership, ensuring productivity, quality, safety, and compliance across bamboo farming and restoration activities. This is a field-focused leadership role requiring strong operational discipline, workforce management skills, and regular engagement with field teams.

The Operations Manager will be based at the Kigali headquarters while spending at least three days per week in the field across Rwanda’s 13 project districts.

Reports To: General Manager
Team Managed: 3 Supervisors and 31 Technicians

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Operational Planning and Execution

  • Translate annual operational plans into daily, weekly, and monthly execution plans.
  • Develop work plans with clear targets by activity, location, and workforce.
  • Ensure availability of:
    • Tools
    • Plant materials
    • Fertilizers
    • Water
    • Equipment
    • Machinery
    • Vehicles.
  • Set and monitor productivity targets and quality standards.
  • Optimize workforce planning involving employees, seasonal workers, and contractors.
  • Manage nursery operations and ensure quality plant production and timely delivery.

Field Management, Quality Control and Compliance

  • Maintain strong field presence to ensure compliance with:
    • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) requirements
    • Silvicultural standards
    • FSC standards.
  • Conduct field audits across project districts.
  • Review operational performance and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure accountability for poor performance, quality issues, and safety violations.

SOP Management and Continuous Improvement

  • Translate operational procedures into effective field practices.
  • Lead SOP improvement processes based on operational lessons and audits.
  • Ensure proper training, implementation, and version control of procedures.

Reporting and Records Management

  • Monitor plant production, quality, suitability, and delivery schedules.
  • Prepare weekly operational performance reports.
  • Ensure accurate operational, safety, equipment, and spatial data reporting.
  • Provide updates to management and corporate teams.

Requirements

Applicants should possess:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Agriculture
    • Forestry
    • Natural Resource Management
    • Related field.
  • 8–10+ years of operational experience in:
    • Commercial forestry
    • Agriculture
    • Large-scale field operations.
  • Proven experience managing large teams and field-based operations.
  • Strong knowledge of planting operations and chemical application.

Technical Skills

Ideal candidates should demonstrate:

  • Strong silviculture or field operations expertise.
  • Workforce and resource planning abilities.
  • Data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Understanding of spatial data and operational tracking.
  • Strong Excel and software skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Leadership Competencies

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Strong accountability and leadership skills.
  • Ability to mentor and coach supervisors.
  • Effective field management and follow-through.
  • Ability to work in challenging outdoor environments.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

Additional Advantages

Mandatory Requirement:

  • Valid Driving Licence Category B.
