The University of Kigali (UoK) is seeking a qualified and experienced Plumber to install, inspect, maintain, and repair plumbing systems across its campuses. The successful candidate will ensure reliable water supply, drainage, and sanitation systems in academic buildings, laboratories, student residences, and other university facilities while responding promptly to emergency maintenance needs.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair plumbing systems across university facilities.
  • Repair water leaks, burst pipes, blocked drains, toilets, faucets, showers, and water heaters.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on plumbing, heating, sprinkler systems, and valves.
  • Install plumbing systems and fixtures for renovation and expansion projects.
  • Respond to emergency plumbing issues during weekends, nights, and public holidays when required.
  • Maintain specialized plumbing equipment, including laboratory water systems, reverse osmosis units, and backflow preventers.
  • Service steam lines, sewage systems, and external drainage infrastructure.
  • Manage maintenance work orders using digital maintenance systems.
  • Order plumbing materials and maintain inventory of spare parts.
  • Interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and building regulations.
  • Prepare maintenance and inspection reports.
  • Coordinate external contractors involved in major plumbing works.

Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Plumbing or an Advanced Diploma (A1) in Plumbing or an equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience for Bachelor's Degree (A0) holders.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience for Advanced Diploma (A1) holders.
  • Completion of a recognized plumbing apprenticeship.
  • Relevant professional plumbing license (such as Journeyman or Master Plumber).
  • Basic welding skills.

  • Plumbing installation, inspection, and maintenance expertise.
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience using specialized plumbing tools and equipment.
  • Inventory and materials management skills.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance systems.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of workplace health, safety, and environmental standards.
