Overview

LuxDev is seeking an experienced Center Advisor – Livestock Production to support the ISHEMA Project at the Kinazi TVET Center of Excellence in Ruhango District. The successful candidate will lead technical operations aimed at optimizing livestock and feed production while strengthening vocational training and industry partnerships.

Reporting to the Chief Technical Adviser and working closely with the Head of Production, the Center Advisor will oversee production activities, mentor staff and outgrowers, manage operational budgets, and provide expert technical advice to improve productivity, animal health, and sustainable agricultural practices.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Technical Advisory and Extension Services

• Provide expert technical advice and extension services to livestock production staff.
• Advise on integrated feeding systems, intercropping, and crop rotation for improved productivity.
• Lead implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies.
• Provide guidance on livestock nutrition, forage management, feed formulation, and animal care.
• Identify and evaluate new feed varieties and production methods.

Livestock Health and Management

• Oversee livestock vaccination schedules and preventive healthcare programmes.
• Promote animal welfare and biosecurity standards.
• Monitor breeding programmes and herd/flock management practices to improve productivity.

Production Oversight and Capacity Building

• Supervise livestock and feed production activities.
• Ensure compliance with production standards and operational targets.
• Mentor production staff and outgrowers through technical training and coaching.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through better processes, technologies, and resource utilization.

Financial and Procurement Management

• Manage budgets allocated for production activities and operational inputs.
• Coordinate procurement of:
  • Seeds
  • Fertilizers
  • Animal feed
  • Veterinary supplies
  • Other production materials.
• Maintain accurate production, inventory, and financial records.
• Perform additional duties assigned by the project or LuxDev.

Requirements

Applicants should possess:

• Bachelor's Degree in:
  • Animal Production
  • Livestock Production
  • Agriculture
  • Veterinary Science
  • Agronomy
  • Or a related field.
• Relevant experience in livestock production, agricultural extension, or production management.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Livestock feeding systems
  • Animal health management
  • Breeding programmes
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
  • Sustainable agricultural practices.
• Experience supervising agricultural production teams.
• Budget management and procurement experience.
• Ability to mentor and train production staff and farmers.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
